With Access to Capital, This Mother Can Support Community Health

With access to a loan, Rebecca has transformed the future of her family and her community.
With access to a loan, Rebecca has transformed the future of her family and her community.

A single mother of five, Rebecca was left alone to provide for her family. They lived in the capital city of Monrovia, situated on the West African nation’s coast. Economic opportunities were scarce, and as Rebecca struggled to juggle the costs of housing, food, and education for her children, it was education that often fell by the wayside.

Rebecca had dreams of starting her own business. But without access to a fair loan, she couldn’t afford to begin her journey as an entrepreneur.

Joining the PW Network

Through her church, Rebecca connected with Kendei Empowerment Foundation Microfinance (KEFM), a local partner of Partners Worldwide (PW). She participated in a business training program facilitated by KEFM, where she learned how to manage her finances, develop a business plan, and more.

When she graduated, KEFM connected Rebecca with the capital she needed to start her own business. Equipped with these tools, she launched a pharmacy, selling medicine and first aid to those in her community.

The Impact of a Loan

As a business owner, Rebecca can now support her family. With her savings, she’s been able to build a house and send two of her daughters through university.

Just look at the impact a loan can have! This is why investing is one of our four strategic activities. Connecting entrepreneurs to capital allows them to start or grow their businesses, upgrade equipment, or hire new employees. It’s not just an investment in one person’s future: it’s an investment in the future of a whole community.
