Américo is Growing to New Heights & Markets
Américo Tivane does it all: he’s a father of 10, grandfather of 15, pastor at Zion Church in his community, and a maize, beans, and tomatoes farmer.
Américo is part of the Samora Machel Farmer’s Association as the head of the production department, one of the associations our local partner AfricaWorks Mozambique (AWM) works with to help farmers increase production, management skills, and teamwork. He first got into agriculture through an agribusiness program promoted by AWM, which aimed to transform the lives of communities by supplying inputs, transferring new technologies, and building value chains.
Since joining the association Américo has been able to grow his market from only local buyers to supplying tomatoes to an agro-processing factory in Chokwe town. This growth has allowed him to purchase cattle and a bicycle for transportation. Aside from material growth, Américo has perfected his skills in agriculture and his knowledge of production and management.
Partners Worldwide has helped make agricultural trainings possible for Samora Machel and other associations through ongoing support and resources for AWM. The trainings have equipped over 400 farmers with insights on production techniques, soil conservation, working together, water management, harvest management, basic business plans, and leadership. This program has helped Samora Machel Farmers’ Association commit to supply tomatoes to a new processing company and also become a case study for other partners.
